Mrs. Dafina Gercheva took up her position as United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia on 8 January, 2010. She holds B.Sc. in Economics, M.Sc. in Political Economy and Sociology, and Ph.D. in Environmental Economics from University of National and World Economy, Sofia, Bulgaria. Mrs. Gercheva was visiting scholar in Oxford, University College London, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.

Mrs. Gercheva was Major Assistant Professor in Economics at Sofia Technical University, research fellow with USIA Fulbright Exchange Program and has done consultancies in the area of environmental economics, governance and local development and decentralization. She possesses extensive managerial, academic and practical experience and is an author and co-author of eighteen publications in the area of capacity development, sustainability, economic and environmental issues.

Mrs. Gercheva has more than 16 years of experience with UN and has held a number of senior program and managerial positions within the UN system in different countries of Europe and the CIS.

Mrs. Gercheva served as Capacity Development Adviser and Practice Leader in UNDP Bratislava Regional Support Center from 2002 until December 2009.

Mrs. Dafina Gercheva is Bulgarian. She is married and has two children. She speaks fluently English and Russian and has a good understanding of Macedonian, Serbian and Croatian languages.
