Interns' Corner
From February 20 to March 20 four senior students from Valery Bryusov Linguistic University were hosted by UNO/DPI Yerevan Office to pass their internship. During this period of time they assisted the DPI Staff in their daily routine work, got acquainted with the UN System, its goals and principles, translated several pieces of UN materials into Armenian. Besides, being exposed to UN information they were quite an asset to DPI as well. Here are some excerpts from their impressions...
"First of all, the internship helped me to become aware how an international organization, such as the UN works in the field as well as globally, and to get to know what its objectives and missions are. Besides, I had the chance to further develop my professional skills, which will surely be constructive for my future career. And I hope, I myself managed to have my little contribution in the realization of the UN goals and missions". (Arpine Yesayan)
"During the 6 weeks spent there I got to know lots of new things about UN that is a direct participant in the solution of the most actual problems the world population is concerned about... . All in all I’m very satisfied not only by my practice, but also by the warm attitude of our chief and all the employees of the department. I spent the finest weeks at the UN Office in Armenia and I hope that some day I’ll enter this building already as an employee of this organization". (Lena Baghdasaryan)
"...Several weeks spent at UN gave me the chance to get more knowledge about what is going on around this world, and it helped me to get the clearer image of one my future goals, i.e. to make the life of people easier. I have already begun realizing this goal, however, the last 3-4 weeks helped me to specify the field of my future activity. I want to help girls and women in developing countries to get better education. From different materials we dealt with, I realized that illiteracy is the root of all evil, thus educating girls will help to reduce the number of violence existing today". (Sofya Manukyan)
"...Of special interest and importance was my contribution to the translation of the book “Everything You Wanted to Know about the United Nations”, which enlarged my knowledge of the UN, its system and agencies, its missions, helping me draw a demarcation line between some ambiguous terms. While working on the book “Everything You Wanted to Know about the United Nations” I also gained deep knowledge about the UN activities, efforts and operations, especially those aimed at maintaining international peace, security and stability".
